Chiropractic is a holistic, drug free and non-invasive complementary health care system. It is particularly effective at treating problems with joints, bones and muscles, and the effects these problems have on the nervous system.

In the UK chiropractors are independent primary care professionals registered with, and regulated by the General Chiropractic Council.(www.gcc-uk.org). This means you do not have to be referred by your GP.
Chiropractors aim to improve the efficiency of the nervous system and restore the body's natural healing ability to improve function and provide natural pain relief. This is done by the use of specific, usually very gentle adjustments. These adjustments often involve the spine, but may include any of the body's joints. The adjustments aim to restore normal movement and function to the joint, and therefore relieve pain.
Chiropractors deliver over 95% of manipulative therapy worldwide and are the recognised experts at this type of treatment.

Today chiropractors are the third largest health profession world wide, and have an international organization that includes setting and maintaining high standards of education. In the UK the profession is regulated by statute and all chiropractors must be registered with the GCC. (Use the link above to check that your chiropractor is registered.)
